CONCRETE RUNWAY

When the streets are your runway......

I agree. I know that Lagerfeld changed the image of the Chanel woman and made it more accessible for a younger audience which I applaud him for doing but every time I look at a Chanel show, I’m sooooo disappointed. View high resolution

Celebrity Series: DAPHNE GUINNESS

Because I live in the U.S. many people I know, don’t know who Daphne is but words cannot describe her. Everyone’s favorite heiress turned fashion icon/journalist/couture archivist, Daphne is the epitome of who I want to be when I’m her age! Personally, I believe her to be the last remaining member of the Fashion Trinity (along with Isabella Blow and Alexander McQueen). She is just so amazing! She even had a MAC line dedicated to her.

Top Ten #15

So I tried to get a large variety of icons from the past with different styles, just to keep it fair. I finally got a new charger so I should be returning to my usual schedule and i’ll sporadically post photoshoots I see that I love. This list is also made from personal opinion.

1. Bettie Page- The queen of pin-up and an iconic model for the naughty thoughts and fetishes of the 50s men. Bettie embodies a woman who uses her sex as a weapon and wields it with poise. Although her costumes never stayed on for very long, they were beautiful to look at inspired many artists of the time.

2. Diana Ross- The only word you can use to describe her is glamorous. She was always put together and displayed a more dramatically glamorous way of dressing. In long, gold sequined gowns, a big curly mane, and naturally thick lashes gave her that enviably look that’s made her an icon.

3. Cher- Avante garde, outrageous, bold, and in your face, Cher never shied away from letting the word know she has arrived. That combined with her uncanny ability to evolve and keep herself relevant has made her a force to be reckoned with.

4. Jackie Kennedy-Onassis- One of the first first women to bring style to the White House, Jackie O was also the picture of poise, and had of way of making an outfit look better. She had a knack for always looking put together, regardless of where she was going, in a classic and chic way.

5. Brigitte Bardot- The ultimate sex pot, she encouraged women all around the world to not only embrace their bodies but their sexuality. She knew the power of her sex appeal and she was not afraid to use it to get men to fall over her. Whether she was seductively wrapped in a terry cloth towel or painted into denim cutoffs with her trademark teased hair, she always screamed sex in a yearning way.

6. Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel- A great designer and a pioneer for women’s right, Chanel hated the norms of her time and sought to change them. But abandoning the corset and using easy fabrics, usually conserved for more casual outfits, Coco create an entirely new look and a new and radical way to live.

7. Twiggy- Trend setter. Muse. Icon. Twiggy was the beginning of the craze of employing incredibly thin models, which was how she got her iconic name. She rose to notoriety at the rise of mod. With her trademark short haircut, doe eyes, and exaggerated lashes, Twiggy WAS fashion. She knew everyone from Andy Warhol to Pierre Cardin and she singlehandedly made androgyny attractive.

8. Debra “Blondie” Harry- No one could do i-don’t-care rock n’ roll like Debby. She had a way of making the most unfashionable things look good in a very dirty, hardcore, rock way. But at the same time, she was capable of becoming a beauty and vulnerable woman while maintaining an edge. But no matter what she wore on her body, her disheveled nest of blonde hair and red painted lips were usually present.

9. Katharine Hepburn- No one took a harder stand for women than Katharine. She refused to conform to what men wanted from her and refused to wear dresses and makeup. Instead, she made mens clothing look chic and women started to emmulate her.

10. Audrey Hepburn- Refined, classy, simple, yet remarkably stunning, Audrey had a grace about herself an an almost nonchalant effort about her appearance. She was able to wear a little black dress and pearls and take your very breath away. She was a true icon, never deviating from the styles she preferred but at the same time, not afraid to try something a little different. She has inspired many people and many styles and her influence has transcended time.

Trend Talk #6

To kick off the newest batch of Trend Talks, I’m gonna tell you all about my all time favorite shoe, a staple in my closet if I were a woman- the bootie. The bootie is essentially an ankle boot, or a short version of a boot. As you know, I love boots, but sometimes you don’t want to wear a full boot, which is when you turn to the bootie. The great thing about the bootie is that it’s extremely versatile. You can wear them with a dress, jeans, or shorts. And the bootie itself comes i different styles- slingback, peep toe, cage, etc. Every woman should own a pair…..and for the hell of it, every man.
