PROJECT RUNWAY ALL-STARS SEASON 2 FINALE

Overall, I was very disappointed with what the final 3 (Anthony Ryan, Uli, and Emilio) presented on the finale episode. Firstly, I like the final 3 (with the exception of Emilio who I wished was Josh instead). Secondly, they were set up this season as they were told they had to make their collections in like 5 days. They had help for some of the days (which led to Josh rejecting Anthony’s request for help which was heartbreaking) and then they built up to the show and it all fell so flat. This finale could have been so great if they had gave them more time. Anthony and Uli have been prepped all season to take this finale and what they put on the runway was a mishmash of every dress they’ve made all season into collections that, at this point, were very boring and expected. Because I had no clue who Emilio was as a designer he had the biggest chance of impressing me but ended up leaving me disappointed. By the end, I really didn’t care who won because it was all a mess. They finally got around to announcing the winner and (no surprise) it was…… (SPOILER ALERT!!!!!) the judges favorite Anthony Ryan.

Anthony Ryan: The most fashion forward of the 3, Ryan sent down super graphic, bold dresses. The dresses themselves looked great and I liked his color and fabric choice but after a while, the parade of dresses (not a pair of pants in sight) looked like the same dress in different colors. And some of the pieces looked ill-fitting. Then came his finale dress and it was a big flop of disappointment. I’m glad he won cuz I’ve always liked him but the competition was not very stiff this time around.

Emilio: Like I said, he was the one I knew the least about (didn’t see his season) and throughout this season, he never impressed me but I have to say, I liked his finale collection. The most commercial of the 3, Emilio grabbed my attention with his choice of inspiration and I was on board and then came the show and he gave me nice clothes that he styled nicely. The problem? For as nice as the clothes were, they were BORING! There was not one surprise element, not one piece that I was dying over. And although I liked the pieces he made it out of, what the hell was up with that ugly weird graffiti print? Made no sense with his inspo!

Uli: I saw Uli’s original season and I was not impressed. Week after week she showed the same dress in a different loud, flowy print so when she walked into this competition, I checked the fuck out! But then at the first episodes runway she shocked the hell out of me and sent down a superchic, stunning dress with not a print or color in sight. And I began to really like her. She does amazing things with trim. But then I wondered if she relied too much on trims. And her finale collection proved she does. The most dramatic of the 3, her collection was a beautiful yet terrifyingly fragile winter wonderland. But after I dissected many of the pieces and took away the trims, the clothes themselves were nothing special.

So overall, if they do another All-Star Season (which I felt that they shouldn’t have done a season 2 in the first place because I define “all star” as the best of the best not the best of right now) they need to do so much better. And do something about those judges! I love Georgina (and her endless parade of self plugging by wearing over the top Marchesa dresses to work). I like Isaac but I prefer Michael and I do not like Caroline (I think that’s her name) because she’s boring and I don’t think she’s all that pretty. I might have to do what I did a couple of years ago and take a break from watching this show as it’s going to pot.

Portia De Rossi as Lily Munster in the new show, Mockingbird Lane. Portia as Lily is kind of everything! I do miss the long black and white hair and the black lipstick but it is what it is. Hope this show gets picked up!

TV Series: Denise Huxtable

My favorite of all the Huxtables on The Cosby Show, Denise had a unique sense of style that screamed that she didn’t care what anyone thought. Her style was like edgy urban bohemian, with a lot of slouchy, over sized pieces, unique hairstyles, and draped pants. I also loved her because she was the only mixed race person at the time that I could look up to.

Project Runway All-Stars Episode 10

This weeks challenge called for the designers to make a ready-to-wear dresses to be sold at Nanette Lepores store using her textiles for charity. Not my favorite episode and to be honest none of them wowed me. And I didn’t like any of the models styling. So this post will probably be short.

(From L to R)

Michael- I liked this but we’ve seen this from him before so it was kind of boring and expected. Wasn’t crazy about the print, but I didn’t hate it. I didn’t think this design was very commercial though. The slit in the front was fine and gave just the right amount of sex appeal but the open back was too much and everyone can’t pull that off.

Kenley- (Loser) FINALLY! After weeks of saying it, Kenley finally got sent home. Of course she did the same silhouette and the same dress. This time she used a print that when sewn looked disconcerting. I found this dress also boring and expected. Not sad to see her go.

Mondo- (Winner) I think Mondo’s was the most different out of all of the designs but it’s not my favorite. I don’t mind mixing patterns but to me, this outfit looked like a big eyesore. There’s a lot going on. I would’ve liked this dress better if the ruffle wasn’t at the bottom, there were fewer colors and if he had belted it.

Austin- The instant he said swing coat, I checked out. The coat when belted looked fine, nothing spectacular but the judges said exactly what I said when he said he was making a swing coat, that it looked a little old. I need Austin to step it up a little bit more. There’s ways of being modern while being vintage.

So the prediction I made towards the beginning came true, the final 3 are Austin, Mondo, and Michael. I could’ve saved myself 10 weeks of nonsense since from the beginning, they’ve showed the most promise. Can’t wait to see next week’s Battle of the Queens. And it will be great because they all give us something different. Mondo will give us edgy and chic, Austin will show classic and sophisticated, and Michael will serve up sex and drapery. Can’t wait!

Project Runway All-Stars Episode 7

The challenge this week was to create a garment to be worn during a Broadway performance for an actress in “Godspell”. The character is a rich, conniving woman who dresses very over the top and garish. This opened up Austin to start the repeated use of large, pretentious words and what not. Drama this week was Joanna telling Kara she wasn’t being ambitious enough (duh!), Mondo not knowing what he was gonna make (which already lets you know he’s either gonna win or lose), and Mila thinking Kara and Kenley’s relationship is unhealthy.

Winner: Mondo

Agreed. He had the best design. I loved it and I would wear it to a nice park picnic with my girls. Only thing I hate it the feathers on the jacket. I think they look tacky. Oh and I LOVE the Dior hair!

Loser: Kara

I somewhat disagree. I actually liked Kara’s outfit. I agree when the judges said this was Kara’s best outfit so far. I agree when they said he construction was off. I didn’t agree that between her and Mila, she should’ve went home. Mila and Kenley should already be gone, not Michael and Rami. Speaking of Kenley, everyone raved about her coat but it was hideous. They said it was cut impeccably which may well be true but the actual design of a peplum coat is dated, her fabric choices were wrong, the feathers on the collar didn’t work, and if I see another fucking polka-dot dress from her, I’ll shoot myself. GO HOME KENLEY!

Favorites:

Austin. The runner-up. I LOVE this look but I have to say his inspiration of Marie Antoinette is soooooo wrong. Firstly, Marie wouldn’t have worn these colors before the death of her son, and secondly, the design doesn’t look like the right time period. If anything, with the colors, hat, and design, this outfit is more Medieval than French Revolution. I also don’t like how the legs of his jumpsuit stop mid-calf. That makes it look juvenile to me as I don’t think fitted fabric (like leggings) that stop mid-calf doesn’t look adult. Other than that, I love.

Jerell. The second outfit from him I’ve liked. My problem with Jerell (other than the fact I just don’t like his clothes) is that I don’t know who his customer is. I don’t know who’s wearing his clothes.

Michael. I liked this look, didn’t love it. I love the feather hairpiece but I hate these fucking ring hats he keeps making!
