CONCRETE RUNWAY

When the streets are your runway......

Celebrity Series: DAPHNE GUINNESS

Because I live in the U.S. many people I know, don’t know who Daphne is but words cannot describe her. Everyone’s favorite heiress turned fashion icon/journalist/couture archivist, Daphne is the epitome of who I want to be when I’m her age! Personally, I believe her to be the last remaining member of the Fashion Trinity (along with Isabella Blow and Alexander McQueen). She is just so amazing! She even had a MAC line dedicated to her.

Trend Talk #8

I know, this is shoe overload, but I won’t have Internet for very long, so I must do it now. This time around, instead of showing a trend I love, I’m showcasing shoe trends I hate. Have fun.

KITTEN HEELS

Recently, designers have shown kitten heels on the runway. My problem with that is that kitten heels look like sick misrepresentations of what a real heel should look like. They’re like those shoes you find in kids dress-up kits.

CLOGS/ CROCS

Clogs in themselves are big and clunky and ugly. Crocs are plastic mistakes. They make your feet smell and they’ll melt you to the pavement on a hot day.

FLIP FLOPS

They make that awful noise when you walk, offer no foot protection or support, look incredibly cheap, and with destroy your feet if you’re not careful. Leave these to public showers and the beach.

CORK WEDGES
I actually don’t mind wedges. Many say they’re pale imitations of real heels, and although that may be true, wedges are not all bad. My problem is with the ones that have the cork heels. They just look like a trailer park bar b q in the middle of June.

Trend Talk # 7

Today’s trend is The Statement Shoe. For those who don’t know what it is, the statement shoe is an ornate and (usually) heavily designed shoe. Originally, a statement shoe was a rare occurrence, but these days every season, almost every runway is bursting with statement shoes. The statement shoe has become such a staple on the runway, they are looked at more than the actual garment. These days, women are also becoming much more comfortable with the statement shoe and some can even be seen wearing them with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. There has been recent debate over the fact that statement shoes are focusing so much on making the statement, models are hurting themselves by trying to strut in these shoes. Oh well. Beauty is pain. Pain is fashion. Fashion is excruciating.
